Campground Layout and Features
The campground has about 10 well-spaced campsites spread over a large area. The sites are located on a rock platform. The ground slopes a little towards the river, so you will need to select a site carefully to allow you to get level.
While you need to be careful of crocodiles in the river, you can camp pretty close to the water as there is a 1m drop to the river.
This site is best accessed with a 4WD. While the road may be in good condition, it is unsealed.
Old Ord River Homestead Location
Once you turn off Duncan Road, you will quickly see the old homestead. Unless you want to visit it, go right at the first Y-junction. When you reach the end of the track and enter the rock platform, go straight ahead, as the step down is not as high.
The map below shows the campground’s location. You can zoom out for a more general location.
What to Watch Out For at Old Ord River Homestead
The only potential danger we can see here is crocodiles. We saw some in the distance. Keep this in mind if you want to get close to the water. While a swim is inviting, there is definitely no swimming here.
Final Words
We enjoyed our two-night stay here. We relaxed in the peacefulness and did a bit of fishing.
It would be easy to linger here for a little longer than planned.
