Lorrngurl Campground – Flora Nature Park

Last Updated on 1 August 2026 by Rob

If you are looking for a remote, emerald-green oasis that feels a world away from the Stuart Highway, Lorrngurl Campground in Giwining / Flora River Nature Park is one of the Territory’s best-kept secrets.

It’s a place where crystal-clear water tumbles over spectacular limestone “tufa” dams. It is a premier “end-of-the-track” destination for a well-equipped setup. While the 46 km unsealed access road ensures a high degree of isolation, you are rewarded with one of the most peaceful bush camps in the Top End.

Campground Layout and Features

Lorrngurl Campground has 10  marked sites of varying sizes located on a loop road. It is important to note that not all sites are suitable for those towing. Some sites are tents only. Here is a summary of the sites:

  • Site 1: parking bay only, very small, tent only on the other side of barrier, fireplace
  • Site 2: as above, with no fireplace. OK for a roof top tent or camper van
  • Site 3: as above with fireplace
  • Site 4: medium-sized with no fireplace, overgrown on our visit
  • Site 5: very small, bay only
  • Site 6: very small, bay only
  • Site 7: large site with plenty of sun, fireplace
  • Site 8: large site with lots of sun and a fireplace
  • Site 9: very large site with sun for part of the day, fireplace, picnic table, opposite toilet/shower block
  • Site 10: very small, bay only, sunny

As you may conclude, sites 7 to 9 are best for caravans. Conveniently, they are also the sites that get more sun. Sites 1 to 6 are fairly shaded.

Flush toilets and hot showers are provided at this campground. There is non-potable water available.

You must book this site online before arrival. There is no phone signal at the campground. Obviously, those with Starlink can book after arrival if they like. However, you need to be mindful of the restricted number of sites suitable for caravans and camper trailers.

What to Watch Out For at Lormgorl Campground

Drive carefully on the unsealed road as there is a lot of bull dust.

The campground has a bit of an unkempt feel, but that is part of the attraction.

As inviting as it looks, do not swim here.

Final Words

We enjoyed our stay here and recommend it

Take a walk along the river to discover the two waterfalls.

The campground is a stop in our NT Savannah Way Itinerary.
