Ryelands Farm Stay and Retreat Near Barossa Valley

Last Updated on 20 April 2026 by Rob

If you are looking for a peaceful, rural escape that trades the coastal winds for the rolling hills of the Gilbert Valley, Ryelands Farm Stay and Retreat is a great choice near Tarlee.

Situated on an active 550-acre sheep and cropping farm just an hour north of Adelaide, this heritage property offers a “slow lane” experience that is perfect for those moving between the city and the Flinders Ranges. It is a premier “big rig” friendly stop offering level sites with sweeping views across the valley and the farm’s historic stone buildings. Whether you are waking up to the sound of the farm’s resident sheep or spending the afternoon exploring the nearby Clare Valley wine region, Ryelands provides a warm, authentic farm-stay atmosphere with plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy the absolute quiet of the South Australian mid-north.

The campground is located between the towns of Tarlee and Kapunda. The road between the two towns is sealed. A well-maintained gravel road runs from the intersection of that road and the farm.

Campground Layout and Features

There are eight sites at the campground. The sites are level and on firm ground. The orientation of the sites makes it difficult to have all sites occupied simultaneously unless you are part of a group. Two of the sites are between other sites, and these two sites would be blocked on both sides.

Water and power are available at the site if you need them. One box provides power. You must select one of the four sites surrounding it or have a long extension lead.

Close to the campground is a shearing shed. The shed contains a single shower, a toilet, and a camp kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked with cutlery, and the facilities are clean. There is also a TV and table tennis table in the shed. During cooler nights, the wood-fired heater would be a popular place to be at night.

While we didn’t stay there, a house is also available for booking.
