Campground Layout and Features

The Camping Area has about 40 unmarked campsites on a large grassed area. There is plenty of space and some sites are shaded.

The site is fairly flat, and the space allows you to be a good distance from any neighbours.

Water is available at this site. A dump point and rubbish bins are also available. A public shower is available in town.

The $10 per night camping fee is payable at the information centre or in the provided honesty box.

What to Watch Out For at Barcoo River Camping Area Campground

During our night, we did not identify any issues while at this campground.

In wet conditions, this site is best avoided as the ground is clay-rich and would become boggy.

Final Words

We enjoyed our stay at this campground.

Make sure that you visit the Black Stump site. The saying about the middle of nowhere originates in Blackall when a stump was set up for surveying. While the original stump is long gone, the idea of being at the black stump will give you a talking point.

We used this site on our Matilda Way itinerary.
