Gilbert River Freedom Camping

Last Updated on 1 August 2026 by Rob

Located on the western bank of the Gilbert River along the Savannah Way, this freedom camping spot is a quintessential Gulf Country stopover for those transiting between Georgetown and Normanton. While technically a motorist rest area limited to 20-hour stays, it offers far more than a standard roadside pull-off, with large, rustic sites that easily accommodate big rigs and hybrid caravans.
