Strahan Golf Club Campground is a fantastic alternative to the often-crowded commercial parks in town.
Located next to the green fairways of the local club, this site offers a massive, level grassy area that is a fantastic choice. It trades the cramped rows of a traditional park for a peaceful, community-driven atmosphere, providing a reliable place to unhitch while being just a five-minute drive from the iconic Gordon River Cruises and the historic waterfront. It is an ideal “hub” for exploring the wild reaches of Macquarie Harbour, offering a friendly, big-rig-friendly environment where your stay helps support a local community asset.

A toilet is provided in the golf clubhouse, and you should handle your grey water appropriately.

No fires are permitted at this site.
Pets are permitted.

The campsites are mostly on an open area of grass. There are some camping amongst the trees. The sites are unmarked and there is enough space for more than 25 vans.
The sites are mostly flat, but there are some undulations, so pick your spot carefully. We found that some of the sites are a bit awkward to get into, as the access is partially blocked by vegetation.
As previously mentioned, a toilet is provided at the clubhouse. Potable water is also available.
The clubhouse is open from 4pm, and they do meals on some nights.
Camp fees are paid via a registration booth at the front of the clubhouse. Complete your details and display the form on your van.
There is a 7 day maximum stay.
Strahan Golf Club Campsite Location
Strahan is located on Tasmania’s west coast, about 21km south-east of Queenstown. It can be accessed from the east, from Queenstown (41km), or from the north, from Zeehan (43km), on good-quality B-class roads.

What to Watch Out For at Strahan Golf Club Campground
As Strahan is located on the west coast of Tasmania, it receives a lot of rain. This site may become boggy in very wet conditions.
During peak times the site is very busy and it can get fairly cramped. Like all low-cost or free campsites in Tasmania you should try to arrive early. Before lunch is advisable.

Closeby Campgrounds
In this part of the state, we also detail Queenstown Football Campground and Lake Mackintosh Campground. Both are good places to stay.
Edited on 23/12/25 due to a fee increase from $10 per night to $15 (details checked 20/9/26).

We stayed 7 nights at this fantastic location. was a bit wet, but a great camp with fresh water available and a dump station nearby. It was disappointing to find out while we were at this camp a good many campers did not pay.
They are probably the same people who complain about such facilities closing down. Thanks for your comment.
