Wearyan River Campground

Last Updated on 1 August 2026 by Rob

If you’re looking for a truly remote “slow-burn” camp on the Savannah Way, Wearyan River Campground is a great choice for those who value space and solitude over town conveniences. Located roughly a 57 km drive south-east of Borroloola, this free camp is defined by its ancient, cycad-filled landscapes and wide-open bush campsites. While it serves as a legendary gateway for those heading toward the Gulf, the camping area itself offers a relaxed, inland vibe, providing a rugged hideaway.

Wearyan River Campground has about four unmarked sites. The ground is a little uneven, but finding a level spot is not difficult. The ground is quite dusty.

There are no other facilities. You must be self-sufficient.

The surrounding area is private land, so it’s best not to stray.

Unfortunately, there is no view of the water.
