Campground Layout and Features

Doolans Bend Camping Area has about 10 unmarked sites beside the Murray River. The sites are fairly flat, and the ground is a mixture of grass and dirt.

This site does not provide facilities. You must bring all the water you need, and it is recommended that you bring your own toilet.

To get to this site, you must pass through two narrow gates. You will pass through another area where you can camp. This area is further from the river and should not be your first choice. Keep going to the end of the track. The track is rutted in places, but a 2WD should be able to handle it if you take it easy. This track is about 1km long. There is enough space at the end of the track to turn around.

Some camping areas enjoy more sun than others due to the tall trees in the area. There are warning signs that branches may fall. There is a boat ramp at this site.

Doolans Bend Camping Area Location

The campground is 9 km southeast of Howlong. It is accessed by good-quality sealed roads to the turn-off, which is 1km unsealed. The map below shows the campground’s location. You can zoom out for a more general location.

What to Watch Out For at Doolans Bend Camping Area

This site can get busy on weekends, especially with good weather. On the Friday we were there all the sites were full by mid-afternoon. Many people entered the area looking for a place to camp.

The river current can be strong. However, there is a safe area to swim near the boat ramp.

Final Words

We had four very relaxing days at this site. We recommend it.

We use this camp on our Murray River Road Trip.
