Campground Layout and Features

Ferns Hideaway has about 30 camping sites available. Of these, 15 are in the main camping area, which is close to the facilities and can accommodate large vehicles. The sites are arranged around the perimeter of an open grass area. The ground is slightly sloping, so levelling may be required.

If you require solar power while camping in the main area, you need to select your site carefully. Most of the sites have significant shading. Sites 1 to 6 provide the best sun exposure. Sites 1 and 2 are less deep than the other sites, so they are somewhat smaller. Site 6 gets less sun than the other sites. As such, sites 3, 4 and 5 will deliver the most solar power.

The remaining campsites are classed as secluded, as this suggests they are more private. They are suited to smaller vehicles (e.g., tents, roof-top tents and campervans). They are further from the amenities and have limited sun exposure. Sites 27 to 30 would be a good choice as they are between the main area and the creek.

The toilets are small and contain one shower for males and one for females. Two other showers outside of the toilets are unisex.

A small basic camp kitchen is provided. Also provided is a lounge area.

An onsite restaurant provides lunches on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. On Saturday nights, they are open for dinner.

Drinking water is provided from tanks. This water is not for filling your caravan tanks.

What to Watch Out For at Ferns Hideaway Resort

We did not identify any issues while at this campground.

As with anywhere near a rainforest, there are mosquitoes, so take repellent.

If you have young children, be aware that an open workshop is near the main camping area.

Final Words

We really enjoyed our relaxation during our stay here.

Make sure to use the free Canadian canoes. Paddle upstream and enjoy the serenity.

During our stay, it was very quiet, even though it was during the school holidays. We got the impression that it was busier on weekends.

Bookings can be made on 040 835 1235 or via their website.

This is an optional campground on our Cairns to Brisbane Road Trip.
