Lorne Station Caravan Park

Last Updated on 29 July 2026 by Rob

Lorne Station Caravan Park is a short drive from Lightning Ridge. It is a convenient location for exploring the historic opal mining town and its surrounding area. The caravan park provides powered and unpowered sites.

While caravan parks are outside our brief, we have included it as this is a low-cost camp. The unpowered section is extensive, providing ample space to spread out.

To stay at Lorne Station Caravan Park, there is no need to be self-contained as toilets and showers are provided.

Campground Layout and Features

The site features approximately 20 powered sites and numerous unpowered sites. The powered sites are located on a gravel area. As per normal, the powered sites are fairly close together. Water connections are provided for these sites.

The unpowered sites are located in a large open area with a clay base. Some trees and shrubs break up the landscape. For most places, there is not a lot of shade. The unpowered sites are essentially bush camps. There is no water available in this area.

The caravan park has toilets and showers. The amenities block is dated, but we found them clean and functional. The showers have large heads and there is plenty of water. It is a welcome change from showers with limited water.

The caravan park has a laundry. Two brand new washing machines were installed during our stay. One takes coins and the other credit cards. There were no driers during our visit.

Bore water is available. As expected, the site has rubbish and recycling bins. A camp kitchen is also provided.

Powered sites are available for $30 per night for the first two people. Each additional person is $10 per night. The unpowered section is $10 per person per night.

Lorne Station Caravan Park Location

Lorne Station Caravan Park is a 7km drive from Lightning Ridge. The last 2km is on a good-quality unsealed road. The map below shows the campground’s location. You can zoom out for a more general location.

What to Watch Out For at Lorne Station Caravan Park

During our visit, we did not have any issues.

During wet conditions, the unpowered section is best avoided. It appeared that even a moderate amount of rain would make the area less than pleasant. The gravel base in the powered section would make it more resistant to wet conditions.

Final Words

We enjoyed our secluded stay in the unpowered section of this caravan park. It is very quiet and the night sky is beautiful (see photo below). The staff are very friendly and we recommend it.

They have a website here.
