If you are looking for a peaceful and incredibly affordable camp just 20 minutes inland from Burnie, Ridgley Campground is a great option for those traversing Tasmania’s North West.

Found behind the football oval and bowls club, this low-cost site offers a rustic site that feels worlds away from the industrial hum of the coast. It is an ideal spot to kick back and relax. Whether you are using it as a quiet first stop after disembarking the Spirit of Tasmania or as a base to explore the spectacular Guide Falls just down the road, Ridgley delivers that classic, community-run campground for just $5 per person.

Campground Layout and Features

The campground is located on a grassed area sandwiched between the bowling club and community centre and a creek system. On the other side of the creek is an operating dairy farm. At a squeeze, there are about 10 sites.

The ground is undulating, so select a suitable site to level your van. To get the most solar, you should set up on the bowling club side in a central location.

Ridgley Campground water tap location

The campground has no facilities, but water is available from the bowls club. The tap is very easy to miss as it is not located on the toilet block. It is located on the clubhouse wall between the toilets. It is well hidden between a utility box and the rubbish bins (shown in the photograph).

The bowls club toilets are open for use. They can be accessed via a small gate on the opposite side of the bowls club from the main access gate.

The fee of $10 per night fee is collected by the owner. He normally comes around in the early evening.

Bookings for the sites are not required. If you have any questions, you can contact the owner, Marcus on 040 812 5166.

Ridgley Campsite Location

Ridgley Campground is easily accessed by three different B- and C-classed roads from the vicinity of Bernie. Bernie is approximately 13km north of the campground by the shortest route. The site can also be accessed via a B-class road from the south.

During our stay, there were no signs indicating the campground’s presence. To access the site, you must find the gate at the far end of the car park at the front of the community centre and proceed through it. The campsite is located behind the community centre and bowling club.

What to Watch Out For at Ridgley Campground

We did not come across any issues during our stay at this campground.

If you have young children, be aware that there is an unfenced dam in close proximity to the campground.

Final Words

We had a relaxing and comfortable stay at this campground and recommend it.

If you do stay here spend some time in the evening by the dam. If you sit quietly, you may see one of the platypus that live in it.

During your visit you should visit Guide Falls.

Closeby Campgrounds

If from this location you are heading west, you may like to consider staying at Myalla Recreation Ground, Black River Campsite near Stanley or at Stanley Recreational Campground in Stanley.

Fee remains unchanged at 26/12/25.
